Laser Day - Welcome!
Dear Student:
The College of Science at Florida Tech is pleased to announce the date of our…
18th Annual LASER Day Event
Liberal Arts, Science & Engineering Resource Day
LASER Day was designed for Brevard County High School (Grades 10, 11 & 12) and Community College students as well as their guidance counselors,
teachers and parents. This Fall’s event will be held on the Florida Tech Campus on Wednesday, November 4th from 2:15 pm
– 8:15 pm. This is a free event sponsored by the College of Science, College of Engineering and College of Psychology and
Liberal Arts.
We believe that the study of science, engineering and liberal arts is exciting and
LASER Day is one way we can introduce you to this very
excitement. Our program allows you the opportunity to choose three specific areas of interest to you, visit laboratories and attend
presentations about chemistry, engineering, the space sciences, marine biology, media and computing, to name a few. You will also
have the opportunity to observe working research laboratories and discuss research projects with the faculty conducting them. From
4:00–5:00pm, while the students are attending their sessions, we will also be offering a Financial Aid 101 session, for interested
parents, in Room 403 of the Crawford Building. Then, at 6:20pm that day, everyone is invited to join us for a light dinner in the
Hartley Room of the Denius Student Center.
We also wanted to make you aware that if you visit campus that day, you will receive a $500
Florida Tech Campus Visit Travel Grant toward your first semester if you enroll fulltime at Florida Tech. In addition to
this LASER Day visit, if you or your parents would like to visit campus again to get a more personalized tour, please call (321)
674-8030.
We hope that you can attend LASER Day
2009. Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 4th. Online
Pre-Registration is now available at http://411.fit.edu/laserday. A paper registration form is also available. This year, we
have only 350 seats available to host students from all local public and private Brevard County high schools so pre-registration for this
event is highly recommended. Please pre-register as soon as possible so you have a better chance of getting your preferred sessions.
Also, we ask that only students who plan to attend the event pre-register for it. Any inquiries or questions should be directed
to me or Linda Ward in the College of Science Dean’s office at (321) 674-7573 or lward@fit.edu.
The first 200 students to arrive will receive a LASER Day T-Shirt. Thank you for your interest
in Florida Tech and LASER Day 2009!
Sincerely,
Hamid K. Rassoul, Ph.D.
Associate Dean, College of Science
Professor of Physics & Space Sciences
