Physics & Space Sciences Reunion 2008!    Oct 10-12, 2008

This is a wonderful opportunity to return home to Florida Tech and spend a weekend reconnecting with your fellow alumni, as well as participating in exciting scientific discussions. We look forward to showcasing our state-of-the-art F.W. Olin Life Sciences and Physical Sciences buildings and invite you to tour construction projects underway throughout our campus.

The theme for our scientific sessions is Frontiers in Physics & Spaces. We'll explore a series of rapidly emerging issues related to both physics and space sciences.   For more information about the Reunion, please contact Professor Niescja Turner.

A CD scrapbook is being planned for this celebration!  Please send your best photos (digital or print) to Professor Terry Oswalt.

During Florida Tech's Golden Anniversary Campaign, the Physics and Space Sciences Department is proud to announce a series of opportunities to support the next generation of scientists trained in our world class programs.

  • MILLER GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
    • Dr. John Miller, Florida Tech's 2nd president, was a physicist and faculty member in the PSS Department. This fund is currently insufficient to recognize our most outstanding graduate teaching assistant each year via a plaque and small honorarium. As a more fitting tribute to Dr. Miller, we are creating an endowed Miller Award that can provide fellowships for the annual awardee and the best new graduate applicant each year.

  • POTTER UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
    • For many years, Dr. James Potter was the Physics Laboratory Director. Currently, this account supports modest scholarship aid to one incoming Physics or Space Sciences undergraduate student each year. Please consider helping us to grow the Potter Undergraduate Scholarship Fund so it can fully support at least one new student each year.

  • PHYSICS AND SPACE SCIENCES ENDOWMENT
    • Once fully vested, this discretionary fund would be directed by the PSS Department Advisory Committee which will include alumni, faculty, students and professionals from fields relevant to the Department's research and academic areas. This endowment would support: (1) curriculum and faculty development; (2) faculty and student participation in professional organizations; (3) classroom and laboratory equipment; (4) recruitment and program materials; (5) special student scholarships and other initiatives as identified by the Committee.

  • FRIENDS OF THE OBSERVATORY
    • The new 0.8m Ortega Telescope, the largest research telescope in Florida, needs an operational budget to provide for the telescope's maintenance, expendable supplies and occasional upgrades to instrumentation. Funds will also be used to bring outside speakers to the monthly Astronomy & Astrophysics Public Lecture Series.

Alumni support of Physics and Space Sciences at Florida Tech through gifts to these essential funds will provide the next generation of scientists with a world class, high tech education, with a human touch!
